I'm generally in favor of downsizing government but I feel that good education needs to be easily accessible to all citizens or else our country will deteriorate even faster.
In the past it was sufficient to fund K-12 but modern times have most of the worthwhile jobs requiring college degrees.
If we're serious about reducing unemployment then we need to redirect more money towards subsidizing higher education. Doing this can also help reduce the number of foreigners that modern companies keep hiring from other countries because there are insufficient American workers with the necessary skills.
